The score doesn’t matter, but the way we play does.

Water is the best hydration. Avoid artificially sweetened drinks, caffeinated or carbonated beverages or milk, especially before games. The below recipe is an inexpensive alternative to artificial drinks.
Healthy Drink
Squeeze of Lemon
1/8 cup of sugar
A pinch of salt
Make sure you hydrate for several hours before a game or training. Once your child feels thirsty, it is difficult to drink enough water once exercise has begun.

Complex Carbohydrate

Complex carbohydrates before a game or training help fuel your child's energy. Protein, on the other hand, can help recovery.
For example, pasta with beans and vegetables, or a baked potato, can be a good dinner before an early morning game.
Heavier, meaty meals are best eaten AFTER a game as they require more energy from your digestive system and can make a player lethargic during a game. Having a protein-rich meal after exercise also helps your muscles recover more quickly.

Real Food

Eat real food rather than relying on protein bars or nutritional energy powders or shakes. Most bars are full of additives that are not necessary for performance, and they are often loaded with sugar, sodium and chemical preservatives. A banana, some dried fruit, slices of chicken, a handful of nuts, a peanut butter sandwich, and the like are more effective at feeding your child with good nutritional energy, and just as quick to serve.
